Cocaine

  1. Cocaine is a powerfully addictive central nervous system stimulant that is snorted, injected, or smoked.

  2. It’s a Stimulant

  3. Also increases body temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate.

  4. Users risk heart attacks, respiratory failure, strokes, seizures, abdominal pain, and nausea.

  5. Coke, snow, flake, blow

How that drug is taken.

Cocaine is taken in three common methods: snorting, injecting, and sniffing. Snorting is the process of inhaling cocaine powder through the nose, where it is absorbed into the bloodstream through the nasal tissues. Injecting is the use of a needle to insert the drug directly into the bloodstream. Smoking involves inhaling cocaine vapor or smoke into the lungs, where absorption into the bloodstream is as rapid as it is by injection.

10 Ryan.) Cocaine is an insanely dangerous drug that can be injected, inhaled, and smoked. The thing about being able to have this inputted into your body three ways can screw up a whole lot of your body parts. Injecting could spread STD’s and other blood diseases. Inhaling screws up your nostrils and your since of smell and smoking messes up your lungs. I believe that Cocaine is one of the most dangerous drugs. The long term effects or horrible, some of them are

Statistics related to that drug (example: % of teenagers using in 2008)

In 2009, 4.8 million Americans age 12 and older had abused cocaine in any form and 1.0 million had abused crack at least once in the year prior to being surveyed. Source:National Survey on Drug Use and Health (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration Web Site).

The NIDA-funded 2010 Monitoring the Future Study showed that 1.6% of 8th graders, 2.2% of 10th graders, and 2.9% of 12th graders had abused cocaine in any form and 1.0% of 8th graders, 1.0% of 10th graders, and 1.4% of 12th graders had abused crack at least once in the year prior to being surveyed. Source: Monitoring the Future (University of Michigan Web Site) .

An interesting/fun fact about the drug.

The soft drink Coca-Cola originally contained an estimated nine milligrams of cocaine per serving, which combined with caffeine to create the drink’s powerful stimulating effects. While cocaine was officially removed from the drink’s ingredients in 1903, a cocaine-free version of the coca leaf is still used as a flavor additive in the soda.

The Most Dangerous Drug in the World

I personally don't know many drugs but out of the three I know, I believe that Cocaine is really the most dangerous drug in the world. I think this because Cocaine can ruin many parts of your body because it can be inhaled (through the nose), injected and many other of ways can be enter your body. I think that cocaine is easily able to be addicted to because it's such a strong drug that widely affects your body. From watching movies and what I hear about this drug, Cocaine and the equipment you use can also transmit other diseases.

Paper Letter

Date: Oct, 28, 2011

Mr. Peterson

Assistant Principal
International School of Kuala Lumpur
Ampang, Malaysia

Dear Mr. Peterson, the world is having a shortage of paper and other scarce resources. For example our library using a ton of paper everyday and I would feel a lot more comfortable about our school if we could reduce this. It would really benefit us because of the cost and having a more eco-friendly school. This will make our school look a lot more professional and friendly to the environment. Will you come and face the truth, about this problem or will you deny it complete.

Originally we thought this wouldn’t really help much with the school except for creating a greater eco school. We then went more in depth with the problem, and noticed that we invest and spend a lot of money for monthly amounts of paper. According to the green pages it states that we used around 10 millions pieces of paper. This is an unbelievable number that has a huge cost affect onto the school. For the environment part, the school is horrible because they continue to use paper like water, and this is a poor factor since the world is basically in an environmental crisis.

Our school is using around 10 million sheets of paper every year, and that is horrible for the cost and environment. According to the Iskl green pages it costs 30 sen for black and white printed-paper, and 50 sen for colored. If you multiply the 10 million by .30 it is 3 million ringgit. This is atrocious because our school cuts back on un-necessary things, and they don’t even think about the most common resource to be easily controlled. From an environmental viewpoint this waste so much, not just paper is used ink cartridges, and electricity is wasted a lot. This may seem like a small problem because it’s just our school, but if you imagine the whole world doing the same it would have a massive bad global issue

To make sure we have met these goals, or standards is that we can take a monthly check on paper usage throughout the school and classrooms. This will help us compare what we have now and what we used to have, this will help us improve our knowledge on what classes, or programs need to cut back a little/a lot. Not only should we check the amount of paper used, but we should also monitor the ink cartridges and electricity. If we can monitor and cut back on these things we can help the amount of money spent, and most importantly the environment.

Mr. Peterson, to conclude my topic our school spends a lot of money on an overload of paper for printing. Cutting back is our main goal to point out, but switching to tablets instead of booklets and google docs instead of a 15 page printed essay. This could really help our ecological footprint with our school, and help us create a better society.

Sincerely,

Ryan Scott

Food Inc. Reflection

Corn Production - I believe that the mass production of corn, is controlling our ways of eating and lifestyles. The movie stated that more than 80% of groceries, and food products have some corn particles within the food. People are now having animals eat corn and consume it, even though only 50 years ago they only ate grass. The reason they are trying this is because they

Animal Cruelty - I believe that now a days we produce meat, and food a lot more quickly and inhumane. Before the Industrial Revolution we would kill our prey maybe with an arrow or a gun. This would make it die quickly and less brutal, but now its different. Our food industries basically have everything on a conveyer belts, and kill every thing by smashing, crushing, sawing, and or cutting them until they die. Everyday at the biggest slaughter house in the world, the count of animals killed per. day is around 33,000 animals every 24 hours. This is insane, because the workers all have different jobs and don't care about what there doing to the animals. I believe that everyday we grow more and more with factories and industries, we become more selfish, and savage.

ANALYSIS

Based on the above-stated items, you will now need to make a detailed assessment of how you did with your eating and activity. You DO NOT need to just answer the questions, but write a few paragraphs about your diet and exercise habits. In doing so, please make sure that you include the information given the following questions/statements.

1. Nutrients (including fats) from the nutrients pie chart on FitDay

  • Fat 25%
  • Carbs 40%
  • Protein 35%
  • Alcohol 0%

2. Daily allowance in relation to what you ate (largely from the food group recommendations on MyPyramid)

  • Grains - 10 ounces
  • Vegetables - 4 cups
  • Fruits - 2.5 cups
  • Dairy - 3 cups
  • Protein Foods - 7 ounces

The yellow represents the food group I need to improve on otherwise the green represents the good groups that I am always eating and obtaining.

3. Identify three nutrients that you consumed close to 100% of RDA

  • Carbohydrates
  • Copper

4. Identify three nutrients that you either over-consumed (far above 100%) or under consumed (very low) irregularities you might have (too high or too low)

  • Vitamin D 3%
  • Selenium 496%
  • Niacin 428%

5. Use the internet to research what the nutrients in #3 and #4 and identify the following:

  • Carbohydrates - A compound that contains carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen and canbe broken down to release energy in the body.
  • Copper - A red metal, the chemical element, that helps conduct heat and electricity
  • Vitamin D - A vitamin found in liver and fish oils, and absorbs calcium.
  • Selenium - A gray crystalline non metal with semiconducting properties
  • Niacin - B vitamin essential for the normal function, and the gastrointestinal tract.

a. What is the nutrient does for the body (what is its function?)

  • Niacin - B vitamin essential for the normal function, and the gastrointestinal tract

b. What foods you can find the nutrient in?
Carbohydrates -

· bananas

· barley

· beans

· brown rice

· chickpeas

· lentils

· nuts

Copper

  • Oysters
  • Sesame Seeds and Tahiti
  • Cocoa Powder and Chocolate
  • Nuts
  • Lobster

Vitamin D

  • Salmon
  • Mackerel
  • Tuna Fish
  • Sardines
  • Milk
  • Pudding

Selenium

  • Brazil Nuts
  • Sunflower
  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Meat
  • Poultry
  • Eggs
  • Mushrooms
  • Grains

Niacin

  • Coffee
  • Energy Drinks
  • Oats
  • Cereals

c. What are the long-term concerns of over or under consumption of this nutrient

The glucose, calcium, nicotinic acid, and thyroid hormone are not released throughout my body and my body cannot fully perform as it should.

d. What adjustments, if any, you will need to make to your diet in order to reach a health point of consumption for this nutrient?

I will have to eat/consume a lot more of the foods I listed above, and if I continuously eat these things, then my body will be so much more better off.

6. Identify long term concerns that you will need to be aware of (e.g. a high fat diet would result in higher risk of heart attack) and how you might alter your lifestyle and choices to be more healthy in the future.

If I don't start changing my diet I will most likely if I don't change some of my eating habits, and actions it will affect me a lot in the long term. In the future it could lead to having many common, health issues and or problems.

7. Compare your food and exercise data to what is recommended for your age, weight, gender and exercise from MyPyramid.gov.

It says that from my basic body information is that I should be eating 3200 calories a day with over 60 mins of exercise a day. From data only taken for a day, I ate 2,498 calories, while I burned 4,162 calories in a single day. So I need to eat a lot more, so I can/could perform or function better throughout my daily live, and exercise times.

8. In your analysis identify ways that your exercise and diet might affect you in the future. In particular, what "health concerns" do you have for your future? What changes would you have to make in your lifestyle to become more healthy? How easy/difficult would these changes be for you and why?
The data says that I need to eat 3200 calories per day to have a healthy daily lifestyle. From one day of data, the results state that I have to eat a lot more because the calories I loose from my exercise is more than the calories consumed. In the future this wouldn't be such a huge problem, but I would like my body to be more built and meaty. This is more than likely the reason I am very skinny. This would be an easy change for me because I would have to eat more small meals and a few big meals, to have a constant stomach full of food/energy.

9. Finally, identify any problem areas that you felt might have given a not-so-good idea of your actual diet and exercise patterns. Was there a problem with the program's database in terms of information input? Was the diet and exercise indicative of your normal weekday lifestyle choices? Note any problems in your blog.

I do not like how it gives you such a straight up answer about what you need to fix, it doesn't show how they estimated how much you need to eat, and they don't help show us steps on how to improve in our personal areas of our diet.
